Piercing The Fog - That is What Satire Does

Piercing The Fog - That is What Satire Does

If it weren’t for Satire I would go crazy!

I’m a guy who looks at what’s going on in Canada and the world and sees a lot that doesn’t make sense. Put another way I have almost stopped watching the news because what I see out there is insanity.  If it weren't for satire in this insane world, I would go crazy.

That’s where the shirts come in.  My brand and this logo are not about race. At all. They are about taking a heavy topic that is being used in a derogatory way, standing it completely on its head, and throwing it out into the open so it becomes funny.

Some people are roaring with laughter, which is the point. But too many are just looking at the surface and calling it flat-out racism. They are missing the satire - completely missing the joke & the point.  I wonder if they understand satire at all. Put it another way if my Trademark had been Stupid Aboriginal People’s Satire & T-Shirt Company would there be cheers, dare I say a medicine wheel, maybe even a potlatch but Stupid White People? How dare you!  Did you know I have been threatened and also called names by government officials?

I didn't build this to belittle anyone. I built it to pierce through the fog and poke fun at the absurdity of it all. If we can't look past the labels and have a laugh at the crazy state of the world, we're in harms way.

I have a lot of trouble with our current immigration policy. A lot of people do. But it isn't just us; many countries are dealing with the same problems.  The UK, Ireland, France, Germany, the US and so many other countries are all facing struggles that often should never have happened and what is worse is the solutions don’t make sense. Everything is buried in a thick fog. Partially made up of that horrible phrase, political correctness, screaming matches, ugly labels and tragically sometimes death and violence.

Using satire, I am going to look at questions that are only being asked now, years late and others that it seems to me, have never been asked. However, to look fairly at what I am doing one must understand satire.  What is required to understand satire and why it can be so useful and at times beautiful.  Hearing people laugh can be beautiful!

Understanding satire is where the contest comes in.  It starts on July 2nd.  Do you see the lightning bolt & the question mark at the bottom of my logo?  What is satire? What do we need to understand satire?  Those are the basis of the contest but first we must put everything in perspective by reading the pending, Proposed, Grand Duchy of Marpole.
